KUCHING: Forty-two teams, including nine for women, are taking part in the inaugural Landas Cup futsal competition at Sports Planet here today and tomorrow.
Organising chairman Ramzi Abdillah said the teams were from both the public and private sectors in Sibu and Kuching.
“Teams from the public sector such as DBKU, Sesco, JKR, JKM and Land & Survey Department Sarawak (Landas) will be competing,” he disclosed.
Ramzi, who is also Landas Sports and Recreation Club secretary, said Landas would be fielding four men’s team and one women’s in the competition divided into Men’s Open and Women’s Open.
The tournament aims to promote futsal and sports in general and enhance ties between the public and private sectors.
The men’s champions will receive RM2,500, a trophy and medals while the women’s champions will get RM1,000, a trophy and medals.
The finalists in both categories will also receive T-shirts.
At a simple ceremony, the event’s sponsor Lea Sports Centre Sdn Bhd, represented by its operations manager Olga Reggie and sales executive Queenie Chang, handed over the trophies, medals, T-shirts and balls worth RM5,700 to Ramzi and the organising committee.
