PUTRAJAYA : Placement of Bachelor of Education graduates of public institutions of higher learning is dependent on their chosen specialisation as well as vacancies in the posts applied for, Deputy Education Minister Dr Mohd Puad Zakarshi said yesterday.

He said not all groups of graduates could be accepted considering that graduates of the teacher training institutes had been trained according to current needs.

Dr Mohd Puad said the problem was compounded by the fact that the number of graduates of public institutions of higher learning exceeded the offers available because the specialisation was chosen by the students themselves.

“We have to consider the specialisation and option chosen by the graduates of public institutions of higher learning.

Perhaps the places for the discipline chosen by the graduates is sufficient for now,” he told reporters here.

He said there was a need to establish collaboration between public institutions of higher learning and the ministry to determine the disciplines which needed focus.

Dr Mohd Puad was commenting on complaints on the matter by several graduates of public institutions of higher learning which was broadcast by a television station recently.

The graduates could forward their complaints to the ministry so that a solution could be found, he said, adding that the ministry had not received any complaint on the matter.

Earlier, Dr Mohd Puad launched the Quality Day of the ministry and presented Quality awards. — Bernama
