WELL DONE, BOYS: Jobli (right) congratulates his DBKU players after they beat ATM 3-1 in the quarter-finals.

KUCHING: DBKU became the first team to enter the last four of the Kuching Football League when they beat ATM 3-1 in a quarterfinal match played at Padang C of State Stadium here yesterday.

It was ATM who drew first blood when Azhar Majlan scored in the 27th minute to give his team a 1-0 lead.

That lead did not last long when Ismail Bujang replied with a goal in the 38th minute to tie the score at 1- 1.

Ismail bagged his second from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute.

His teammate Mohd Faizal Zamri hit in the third goal in the 86th minute.

To coach Awang Jobli Awang Bidin, it was a sweet revenge for his team as they were whipped 7-1 by ATM in the preliminary round of the Merdeka Cup two months ago.

“I am happy that we have achieved our target of reaching the semi-finals and am satisfied with the performance of the boys today as they have played according to instructions,” he said.

“I would give it a 50-50 chance in our next game as we have reached a crucial and tough stage. We have yet to know who our semifinal opponents are so we have to wait for the outcome of the other quarter-final matches tomorrow,” Jobli added.

In today’s two other quarter-final matches, both scheduled at 3.30pm, it will be a battle of heavyweights between Perumahan and Yayasan Sarawak at State Stadium while unbeaten Finexsys will seek to extend their good run in the championship by beating Bumi Kita at Padang C.

The last quarter-final is between Adiqa and Brooke Dockyard at State Stadium at 3.30pm tomorrow.
