Reappointment of Vincent Lau as Temenggong unprecedented

SIBU: Vincent Lau Lee Ming was
reappointed a “Temenggong” for
the Chinese community here
yesterday after relinquishing
the post to stand in the Sibu
parliamentary seat under the
Barisan National (BN) ticket in
the last general election in May.
Lau, 6 5, who is the KTS
deputy managing director, and
independent candidate Narawi
Haron lost to DAP’s Oscar Ling
in a three-cornered fi ght in Sibu.
He was f irst appointed a
Temenggong in January 2010 to
replace Tan Sri Datuk Seri Tai
Sing Chi who retired.
Lau received his appointment
let ter yesterday from Sibu
Resident Sim Kok Kee during the
‘Presentation of Appointment
Letters to Community Leaders
and Village Chiefs for Sibu and
Sarikei divisions’ at Wisma Sanyan here.
It was witnessed by Minister
of Local Government and
Community Development Dato
Sri Wong Soon Koh, director of
administration at Chief Minister’s
Offi ce Dahim Nadot and Sarikei
Resident Michael Dawi Alli.
Lau thanked Wong for his
recommendation and also the
state government for endorsing
his reappointment.
