KUALA LUMPUR: Sports Commissioner Datuk Nik Mahmud Nik Yusof has denied a blogger’s claim that he would be resigning soon. Nik Mahmud, who was appointed to the post in April last year, said his contract would only expire in June next year.
“I am willing to continue my service if the Youth and Sports Ministry decides to extend my contract.
“However, the ministry has the right to end my contract. I had served the civil service for 37 years and I am ready to leave if my services are no longer needed,” he said when contacted yesterday.
A blogger, who made the claim, had tossed several candidates who could take over from Nik Mahmud.
Nik Mahmud, who replaced Tan Sri Elyas Omar as Sports Commissioner, had served as Youth and Sports Ministry secretarygeneral (2004-2005) and Sports Advisory Panel chairman (2005-2008). — Bernama
