KUALA LUMPUR: Registration for the inaugural Standard Chartered KL Marathon closed two weeks (June 15) ahead of the deadline when all 12,500 running slots were filled, race director Hemant Dua said yesterday. The event is scheduled at Dataran Merdeka on June 28. Dua said response for the Marathon has been nothing short of phenomenal.
“Not only has it garnered more participation than any other marathon in Malaysia. Ninety-two per cent of the participants are Malaysians,” Dua said in a statement.
Dua said for those who missed the chance to be part of the event, there was still an opportunity for them to be part of the marathon by becoming volunteers, and they can submit their applications through www.kl-marathon.com.
The event, jointly organised by the Malaysian Amateur Athletic Union (MAAU) and Octagon, a global agency involved in organising more than 3,200 such events, offers RM350,000 in total prize money, with allocated prizes for winners of the Malaysian category, he added.
Among categories contested are the 42.195km full marathons, 21.097km half marathon, 10km run, 5km Fun run and kids dash. — Bernama
