MUKAH: The first ever joint Christmas procession and carolling around Mukah town organised by Christian churches on Saturday attracted more than 3,000 participants.
The event themed ai???1Christ, 1Christianai??i?? started with a joint mass at Dataran Pehin Setia Raja ground, led by organising chairman Father Michael Lee from the main organiser, St Peter & St Paul Catholic Church Mukah.
The prayers were led by Father Michael Lee, Pastor Tommy Tie of Methodist Church Mukah and Pastor Labung Mika of Sidang Injil Borneo (SIB) Mukah.
Around 6.30pm, the congregation from these three churches and from Full Gospel Church Mukah and Church of Living Water Mukah gathered at the main venue.
From there, they formed a procession that went around Mukah town, led by a convoy from St Peter & St Paul Catholic Church Mukah.
The celebrants wearing traditional Santa Claus caps held colourful lanterns, the cross and images of Jesus Christ.
The route covered Mukah New Township, Public Bank Bhd, Mukah Old Township, Jalan Boulevard Setia Raja, Bulatan Masjid Setia Raja roundabout and Dataran Pehin Setia Raja where the celebrations ended around 8.30pm.
Joining in the celebration were members of other communities in Mukah who lined the roadside, cheering the procession as it went by.
