KUCHING: Ang Guat Kee, who is representing Samarahan in the ongoing Sarawak Milo Open Table Tennis Championship, is just a game away from clinching the women’s veteran singles title.
She saw off last year’s champion Tiong Sie Eng 3-0 in the semi-finals yesterday.
Guat Kee will now meet Christine Goh Tze Hua of Kuching for the title today.
“I am looking forward to tomorrow’s final and will be going all out,” she said yesterday.
The former Perak Sukma gold medallist is also heavily involved in the development of the state’s table tennis, particularly at the junior level.
Married to Sarawakianborn former national player Thomas Tay Choon Chai, the couple have set up Extreme Sports Trading here which specialises in coaching and equipment for the sport.
“Currently, we are coaching nearly 100 students and a number of them are actively participating in local competitions,” said Guat Kee.
“We are looking forward to training more players and hope that more similar events are organised in the state.”
