PTGS exponents bring home six golds from Sabah

KUCHING: Persatuan Taekwondo Gabungan Sarawak (PTGS) won six gold, six silver and five bronze medals in the recent 3rd President Cup Championship 2009 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

The gold medallists were Azrul Azli, Muhd Shazerick Zulariffin, Nur Iffah Nadhirah, Marlisa Tee Zulariffin, Phung Jin Wen and Shirley Kua Xiao Zie.

The silver medals came from Ian Wan Juk, Phung Yean Song, Lionel Xavier Josep, Leroy Laeng Juk and Lailatuhsyahirah while Kenny Tiong, Alvin Yee Kit, Rida Ayuda Rambli, Raja Batrisyia Qistina Raja Zahari and Marena Tee Zulariffin delivered the bronze medals.

About 400 exponents from neighbouring countries, states and host Sabah took part in the championship on Dec 19 and 20.

Sarawak team leader Tan Check Joon said the team’s overall performance was commendable.

“I’m happy the hard work of the exponents has paid off,” he said.

They showed good fighting spirit against the internationals fielded by the other teams, he added.
