ALOR SETAR: The Malaysian junior badminton squad advanced into the quarter-final of the World Junior Badminton Championship yesterday when their opponents Cambodia did not turn up at Sultan Abdul Halim Indoor Stadium here.
Despite the easy passage, chief coach Yap Kim Hock said he was wary of the encounter with ‘unpredictable’ Japanese players today.
Meanwhile, Badminton World Federation (BWF) said it would find out why the Cambodian team was absent.
BWF secretary-general Stuart Borrie said that Cambodia had not arrived in Alor Setar and did not submit their competition form.
“We will discuss this issue at the council meeting and decide what action could be taken against them,” he told Bernama. — Bernama
