MIRI: The Sarikei team emerged overall champions of the Sarawak Schools Sports Council (MSSS) cross-country event held at Luak Esplanade here yesterday.
They won the boys’ 17 and below and girls’ 17 and below categories through Penguat Labot and Seha Jenny Vincent and added to their tally three team events – boys’ 14 and below, boys’ 17 and below and girls’ 17 and below.
The other winners in the individual category were Mohd Khairol Surtarso from Limbang (boys’ 14 and below) and Mastur Lina from Samarahan (girls’ 14 and below).
Kuching won the category for girls’ 14 and below.
Mohammad Kindang from Miri Education Department gave away the prizes.
Also present was a representative of SM Sains principal, Norsiah Abdul Manan and SK Kampung Luak headmistress Dayang Mariam Awang Sulaiman.
This year’s event was jointly organised by SM Sains, Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang, SK Luak and SMK Luak.
A total of 190 students from 11 divisions took part in the event over a distance of between 6km and 8km.
